Justice Served to Ten Commandments Judge
November 13, 2003
Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is deceptively calling his
dismissal from office a violation of his religious freedom. The truth is that the person Alabamans entrusted to be arbiter of
law flagrantly violated that law, and then was justly punished.
Moore simply hopes to gain further publicity for his extreme,
unconstitutional, and illogical position that the Ten Commandments represent
the foundation of American law and should be promoted as such. The Alabama
court as well as the Supreme Court already sent Moore the clear message that
blatant displays of the Ten Commandments on government property violate our
first law of the land.
This whole course of events confirms the intent of our nation’s founders
that the basis of our own secular government is not Christian theology and
certainly not a particular sectarian version of a divinely revealed
decalogue, the Ten Commandments.
