Prevent A Blanket Ban on Human Cloning
Cloning for research purposes is under direct threat. House Resolution (HR
534) passed the House in February and is awaiting a Senate vote (where it is
labeled S. 245). This resolution, named the Human Cloning Prohibition Act of
2003, would effectively ban all research on cloning and stem cell research
derived from cloning. This backward thinking bill even prevents the use of
successful medical treatments that were derived from cloning in other
countries.
Though the conflict in Iraq slowed the progress of this legislation it was
discussed in committee just yesterday. Also, earlier this week the state of
Arkansas passed a similar blanket ban on cloning for their state. Supporters
of this legislation hope that the overwhelming passage in the Arkansas
congress will convince their representatives in the US Senate to vote
accordingly.
Please contact your senator and tell them to vote down the Human Cloning
Prohibition Act of 2003.
