Take Action: Sign the Equal Rights Amendment White House Petition!

Dear Friend,

Today's political climate makes it abundantly clear that American women need to have their rights permanently protected through an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Unfortunately, women are currently forced to fight every few years to get equal pay for equal work, fair family leave policies, access to reproductive health care, and much more.

When the Obama Administration removed the ban on women in combat last week, one of the last historic hurdles to passing the Equal Rights Amendment fell with it. The American Humanist Association and the Feminist Caucus are working with our coalition partners and Congress to raise awareness and demand legislative action to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

To help the Equal Rights Amendment get ratified, Americans are petitioning President Obama to stand up for women’s rights and advocate for the ratification of the ERA. You can join them by signing the petition right now.

The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) states, "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex," and it has already been ratified by 35 of the 38 states required before it can be enshrined in the Constitution.

In order for this country to be truly fair, women's equality must be guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and not subject to political winds and misogynist moralizing. Please tell the Obama Administration that you want them to stay focused on women's equality. Take action now and vigorously support women's rights by signing the petition to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

Thank you for joining the fight against gender discrimination.

Sincerely,

Zelda Gatuskin
Co-Chair, The Feminist Caucus

Roy Speckhardt
Executive Director, American Humanist Association

P.S. After you’ve signed the petition, I hope you will learn more about the work of the AHA’s Feminist Caucus and our many years of standing up for women’s rights. Support the movement at www.americanhumanist.org/feministcaucus and follow the Feminist Caucus on Facebook and Twitter.
