American Humanist Association Proudly Launches Redesigned Humanist Website

(May 3, 2011, Washington, DC) The American Humanist Association (AHA) is proud to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Humanist Magazine website. The launch marks the beginning of a more user-friendly interface, creating greater opportunity for humanists to exchange ideas and connect. The Humanist, which was introduced in 1941, recently transitioned to a full-color print format.

"We're most excited about functionality,” said Jennifer Bardi, editor of the Humanist. “Readers can now comment on articles, and judging from the letters to the editor the print magazine receives, the commentary section promises to be thoughtful and lively."

Both the overall look and the back end functionality of the website underwent a complete redesign. It was created and built in Wordpress, the popular blogging software, making for the easier addition of content, new commenting features, and new RSS feeds for better syndication.

“We’re looking forward to the places the revamped Humanist can take our movement,” said Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association. “For decades the Humanist has pushed  the nontheist movement forward with its timely reporting and edifying commentary, and with the improved design, there are increased opportunities to educate and raise awareness.”

To read the newest online edition of the Humanist, featuring articles on the Army’s “Spiritual Fitness Test” from nontheist soldiers’ perspectives, redefining the role of the corporation, and distributive economic justice and the super rich, visit http://thehumanist.org/.

The American Humanist Association (www.americanhumanist.org) advocates for the rights and viewpoints of humanists. Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., its work is extended through more than 100 local chapters and affiliates across America.

Humanism is the idea that you can be good without a belief in God.
